Interested in Theatre but not as an actor, playwright, or director? The Very Useful Theatre Company is seeking Volunteers to support the third annual One-Act Play Festival.  Let us know how much time you have, we are seeking all levels of support, a few hours once or a full Festival support position.

No experience necessary!

We support High School Volunteer hours as well.

PLAYWRIGHT, JENNIFER SIDDLE
Originally from St Albert, Alberta, Jennifer started her television writing career in Vancouver on the tween sitcoms “Mr. Young” (YTV/Disney XD) and “Some Assembly Required” (YTV/Netflix). Jenny is a Leo nominated writer, and has twice been a finalist for a Writers Guild of Canada Screenwriting Award. This year Jenny was recipient of the Corus Writers Apprentice Program in conjunction with the Banff World Media Festival. She currently resides in Toronto.
DIRECTOR, ANDREW CHUNG
Andrew is a Director for film and television, based in Toronto. His short films, “Lovebites” and “Sleepwalk”, have toured international film festivals in San Francisco, Vancouver, France, Montreal, Regina, Winnipeg, and Rhode Island. He has directed spots for TELUS and Coca-Cola. His digital series, “Millions”, received acclaim from online critics internationally, including Tubfilter, and screened in New York, Los Angeles, France, and Toronto.
PRODUCTION MANAGER, KELLY WONG
Kelly is a Producer of film and theatre, based out of Toronto. She has produced various short films including “Marie”, which was broadcast on the CBC program, Canadian Reflections, and “Ma”, which will be making its world premiere at this year’s Reel Asian Film Festival. “For The Love Of Summer” is her first play in Newmarket!

JANNEKE TENBROEK, COSTUME DESIGNER
Janneke Tenbroek is a multi-disciplinary artist and
designer from Toronto specializing in costume design. She has worked as Head of Wardrobe and Costume Designer on various shows in Toronto and enjoys supporting the local theatre scene. Her recent costuming credits include: Costume Designer for The Queen's Eulogy (the orchid beauty shop at Toronto Fringe, 2018), Wardrobe/Dresser for Taylor Swift (Reputation Tour - Toronto, 2018), and Head of Wardrobe for Faust (Theatre by the Bay, 2016)
DAVID ANDREW BRENT AS JEREMY
One of Canada’s most talented and diverse Actors/Impressionists and Stand-Up comedians, David Andrew Brent has had the wonderful opportunity to learn from and work with world-renowned talent. Opening for the likes of Jim Jefferies, Anthony Jeselnik, Will Sasso and many more, David has become a staple in Canada’s Comedy scene. David is also the producer/creator of the highly successful ‘The Hot List’ showcase series – A regularly sold out event at Toronto’s legendary Comedy Bar.
JULIA HUSSEY AS SADIE
Originally hailing from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Julia Hussey is a Toronto-based actor and singer, and a recent York University alumna. She loves living and working north of the city, having recently wrapped up her second year with the NewMarket National Ten-Minute Play Festival, and is excited to be part of yet another wonderful festival here. On top of her theatrical pursuits and passions, Julia finds great joy teaching yoga in Newmarket.
ANH CHU AS MAY LEE
Anh is an actress and writer whose day job in animation production has seen her lucky enough to work on Emmy-nominated shows, and with talent like James Franco, Pharrell Williams, and the legendary John Cleese. Anh has acted in London, England, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and dabbled in sketch and standup comedy. She’s thrilled to be playing May Lee in “For the Love of Summer”!
DANIEL STOLFI AS PALMER
Daniel Stolfi is an actor, writer, producer and Canadian Comedy Award Winning comedian. He is best known for his work in the award winning, one-person cross-country hit, Cancer Can't Dance Like This. Some of Daniel’s TV, Film and Theatre credits include: The Anger in Ernest & Ernestine, Finding Funny, and his latest comedy special, Another Trip Around the Sun.
DAN CHRISTENSEN AS RANGER JOHN
Dan Christensen is a Toronto-based writer, improviser and actor. He is a creator, writer, and producer of the pants-puppet soap opera web series All My Pants, which won awards at LA Webfest and VanChan and appears in the film The Edge of Seventeen. Improvising with his comedy troupe Mixed Tape, Dan was a runner up at Big City Improv Fest's TKO competition, and as a graduate of the Sketch Conservatory at the Second City Training Centre, Dan wrote and performed in the sketch revue The Alternative
DOUGLAS TINDAL AS ED/TOURON
Douglas Tindal began acting as a child but was only recently allowed on stage. He has performed with Theatre Brantford, Sydenham Street Players, Paris Performers (no, the other one), Theatre Etobicoke, Alumnae Theatre, Amicus Productions and, most frequently, with the Village Players in the West End (no, the one in Toronto) where he enjoyed the roles of Angus in The Drawer Boy; Powers in Powers and Gloria; Carson in The Mouse House; and, most recently, Geronte in The Liar.
MARDI TINDAL AS MS. CALHOUN/TOURON
Mardi Tindal has acted in her own character on many stages, as Moderator of the United Church of Canada and broadcaster on Vision TV, CTV, and TV Ontario. But it's been years since she acted as other characters, most recently with the Sydenham Street Players in Brantford. So it's fun to be invited to join this talented crew on the Newmarket stage. Mardi lives with Doug Tindal and adopted his last name over the proper spelling (Tyndall!) 45 years ago.
