The Newmarket Festival

of One-act plays is calling

all High School Thespians!

Would you like to move outside of the classroom and actually perform in a one-act play and have it judged by a professional, qualified Adjudicator? The best high school student production will receive a $150 bursary and the “Rotary Newmarket” award

This is your chance! The Very Useful Theatre Company based in Newmarket, is seeking High School Drama students to perform in a One-Act Play in Newmarket’s recently-renovated SNAPD Auditorium in the Old Town hall with its magnificent, modern stage and professional technical support.

Yes, that’s right! The Very Useful Theatre Company, a not-for-profit organization that donates all net proceeds to charity, is partnering with the Rotary Club of Newmarket, to host the official Newmarket Festival of One Act Plays at the Old Town Hall this coming Oct. 5 to 7, 2017.

High School students are being invited to perform on the first night, Thursday, Oct. 5 each putting on the play of their choice (and it can be original), and rehearsal time will be made available the day of the performance.

VUTC hosted the One Act Play Festival for over 18 years and after a hiatus has brought it back for 2017 – as Canada celebrates 150 years! If you choose to enter, the $150 bursary and the Rotary Club award of theatre excellence is up for grabs!

The SNAPD Auditorium in the Old Town Hall Theatre is a marvelous 180 seat theatre just minutes from Main Street in the heart of Historic Downtown Newmarket. This venue was completely re-built and remodeled and reopened in 2016. It offers a level of comfort and technical excellence and professional staff few other one-act play venues can match.
