Festival Volunteers


Interested in Theatre but not as an actor, playwright, or director? The Very Useful Theatre Company is seeking Volunteers to support the third annual One-Act Play Festival.  Let us know how much time you have, we are seeking all levels of support, a few hours once or a full Festival support position.

No experience necessary!

We support High School Volunteer hours as well.

The 2018-2019



Paul Bath

Paul is a respected businessman in Newmarket, owner/manager of Meridian Newmaket and Centrum Mortgage Brokers, he still has time, to be a member in the Rotary Club of Newmarket and the VUTC. In 2017 Paul was one of the core Committee Members of the Premiere One-Act Play Festival, he offered great ideas and support partnership opportunities with Rotary. Paul also offered up his amazing sales talents to the VUTC and is one of the top marketing sellers for the Festival as well as the Christmas Carol productions.

Larry Sikorski

Larry performed the 2017 audit for the One-Act Play Festival. He comes highly recommended by Paul Bath, and  John Dowson who worked with him on the Festival Audit. The VUTC Board would be lucky to have him as our financial controller and oversight.

Doris Keppler

Doris owner of DPK Design is a architectural and graphic designer in York Region who has donated her services to design and manage the VUTC's Website and Facebook. Doris along with recently retired Board Member, Rod Urquhart, were the VUTC's 2017 Marketing Team and Festival Committee.  



Jacque Bayley

Jacque is the 2017 vice-chair and widow of Ross Bailey one of the founding members of the Very Useful Theatre Company; she has been a key member of the Board since its inception in 1993. Jacque along with the responsibilities of the vice –chair, has been the Chair of the Christmas Carol Performance for the past 2 years. Every year she has ensured a magnificent performance, and the audience continues to grow, she is already planning 2018’s Reading



Jackie Playter

Jackie has been a long time supporter of the VUTC. Jackie’s offer the VUTC some great insight throughout the year, helping us identify opportunities and offering her ongoing support. Jackie has been our liaison with the Main Street BIA and is involved in far to many to mention town committees and groups. 


Jack Zangari

Jack is a retired businessman and resident of Newmarket. Jack has for years supported the VUTC and their productions. Jack is one of the key members to our sales force-we are luck to have him working on our behalf collecting sponsorships and guiding us with his years of not-for-profit experience.

John Dowson

John is co-founder of the VUTC, and 2017 Chairman, as a successful businessman he has still found time for his passion the theatre. John was not only the driving force behind the Premier One-Act Play Festival he also offered his talents as Producer, Director Actor and Project Manager. His Festival idea paid off with a very successful premiere year with over 300 people attending and over $1,500 raised for the Rotary Club of Newmarket. John also supports several other Charities and Theatre Groups, including the Aurora - Silver Stars. John has enjoyed his time as Chair but would like to handover his responsibilities to Paul Bath whom he feels exceeds the qualifications for the role and has shown his dedication over the years. John wishes to focus his attentions on the One-Act Play Festival.
