A Christmas Carol was written in 1843 a time of notorious poverty known as "the hungry forties". You can help us raise funds for the Newmarket Food Pantry by attending this wonderful story of transformation and redemption.

What better way to get into the ‘Christmas Spirit’?

NEWMARKET  --MP Kyle Peterson and the Honorable MPP Chris Ballard on the same stage, reading a Christmas Classic … it just doesn’t get any better than that! And that’s what happened  this past Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016! And all in a good cause!  Now a Christmas tradition across the country, a dramatic reading of Dicken’s A Christmas Carol was presented once again at New Hope Methodist Church on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. Net proceeds  benefitted the very worthy Newmarket Food Pantry, in true Dickens’ fashion. A cheque presentation of more than $1,200 will soon be made to the Newmarket Food Pantry  “It is a truly fantastic production for this magical time of year and we are simply delighted with the readers who came forward this year,” exclaimed John Dowson, President of The Very Useful Theatre Company. “It really gets everyone into the Christmas spirit and makes a real difference for a local charity during this special holiday season.”

The production of A Christmas Carol featured well-known personalities – Aurora/Newmarket MPP The Honorable Chris Ballard; Aurora/ Newmarket MP Kyle Peterson; Newmarket Ward 7 Councillor Christina Biszanz ; Pastor Terry Gibson; and Actor/Director Phil Dionne. “The Irene Ilic Singers” with Soprano Irene Ilic provided the musical accompaniment and the Master of Ceremonies was none other than the President of the VUTC, the well-known John Dowson.
